Boise’s economy is highly diverse, with no major employers that the economy rests upon (like, for instance, the classic example of a small town where many of the male residents work at the mill). There are certainly larger employers, such as Micron, but the range of businesses in the area is quite wide, so a drop in one larger area will not result in an economic collapse. Because of this, Boise has remained resilient throughout the recession that began in 2008, though by no means without impact.
